Description:
Thiostar (Thiamethoxam 25% WG) is a pesticide product which has thiamethoxam as the active constituent. The formulation is mainly applied to manage a broad spectrum of insect pests in different agricultural and horticultural crops. Thiostar is rapidly absorbed by plants and transported to all its parts, such as pollen, where it inhibits insect feeding. It can be absorbed by an insect in its stomach after it has fed, or through direct contact, such as through its tracheal system. The compound interferes with the transmission of information between nerve cells by blocking nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in the central nervous system, and ultimately paralyzes the insects' muscles.
Advantages:
Insect Control Spectrum: Thiamethoxam is famous for having a broad insect control spectrum with its efficacy on aphids, thrips, whiteflies, leafhoppers, and a number of soil-inhabiting pests.
Systemic Action: Thiamethoxam is systemically active because it is absorbed by the plant and translocates within its vascular system. This gives the plant protection from insects that suck on treated leaves.
Residual Activity: Thiamethoxam has residual activity which can provide pest protection over time to continue with the control.
Mode of Action: Thiamethoxam operates on insects' central nervous system, distorting their routine activity and ending in death.
Use and crops:
Crops: Vegetables, Groundnut, Rice, Cotton, Cumin.
Target pest: Stem borer, Gall Midge, Leaf folder, Brown Plant Hopper, White- backed Plant Hopper, Green Leaf Hopper, Thrips.
Dose: 5 - 10 gm in 15L water.
